Welcome to BLGR!

Welcome to Bell Ladies Good Reads! Here we'll discuss all kinds of books--your favorites, not-so-favorites, recent releases and old classics.

Just a bit about me- I write LDS fiction under the names Nancy Campbell Allen, (contemporary fiction/romantic suspense) and N.C. Allen, (historical fiction). I have a degree in Elementary Education, I'm married to a school counselor/surfer and have 3 children, ages 17, 14, and 5.

I think to begin, we should take an informal survey, of sorts. Introduce yourself and let's start with favorite genres. Comment here and let us all know what you like to read!

My favorite genres are:
romantic suspense
mystery
historical fiction

As far as nonfiction goes, I like:
psychology/self-help
biographies

What do you like?

  1. I'm a reader, though someday I might graduate up to writing. I have to get past my passive voice! I'm also a bus driver to pay the bills. I'm Tamera Westhoff. I'm happily married to a student working toward being as Spanish teacher. I have four kiddos, ages almost 7, 5 1/2, 2 and 6 months. My favorite genres are romantic comedy, romantic suspense, good historical fiction (I'm not so into Middle Ages, but love the 1800s and early 1900s)and comics (Baby Blues mainly). Nonfiction I prefer LDS biographies and Historic figures and of course, self-help and psychology (since I'm a Psych major and have 2 case studies in my home)!

  2. I gotta say I love everything! I am reading a book called The Nine right now. It is about the Justices of the Supreme Court. I always wanted to be one someday (after a successful law career and a few years on a bench of my own). Instead i am the chief Justice of my home (deciding such matters as TV after dinner and Why can't I hit my brother). On the back burner is Wuthering Heights. That is for book club next month and one I have never read but always meant to. So we will see how it goes!

  3. It's nice to meet you, Tamera! And Nicole, have you read Wuthering Heights before? I love that book.

You mentioned The Nine, and it made me think of The Eight, one of my favorite (fiction) books by Katherine Neville. So good, but absolutely nothing like The Nine. ;-)

  6. I just have to say how much I love your books Ms. Allen!:) I have all four Faith of our Father's and have read all of your other ones as well.:) I'm have been happily married for 6 years and am a stay at home mom to a 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl. I am currently pregnant with my third! My favorite genres are romantic suspense, I LOVE YA novels, historical fiction, and really just about everything. I rarely find a book I don't like. As far as Nonfiction goes...it's pretty nonexistent around my house. I do love "I am a Mother",though the author escapes me at the moment...
